There are many unique settings that can be used for an engagement ring. The pave engagement settings derive its name from a paved path. The ring itself is paved or has small diamonds all around the ring. With small diamonds in the surface of the ring, there is the illusion that this is the band instead of a metal band.
The diamonds of this ring are attached by small beads or very small prongs. This helps with the illusion that the small diamonds are free standing and just flow around the band. For this reason most of the paved bands use white gold or platinum as the base metal. This will minimize their appearance unlike yellow gold that is in contrast and will show up clearly.
With pave engagement settings, there can be a center stone placed on top. This stone can be a diamond but not always. Other types of stones that can be used are Emeralds and Rubies. There are several different types of pave setting engagement rings. There is one where the width of the ring is encrusted with diamonds. There should be no evidence from the surface that there is a metal band underneath. There are also pave bands that have multiple rows of diamonds. The outer rows are usually angled towards the center row that gives a spectacular effect when gazed upon. If this is done correctly, a 3-d effect will be seen. These two types have a center stone placed among the pave. The last does not. While this type is usually an anniversary ring some are making it an engagement ring to change tradition and to save money.
The quality of the stones that are used will determine the price of this ring. One nice thing is that most of the flaws from the stones of lesser quality are covered up because of the recess setting. In addition the pave engagement settings are a great choice for those on a tight budget.
