Solitaire jewelry in its simplest form is jewelry that has one diamond. This means engagement rings have one diamond without any accent or side stones or other gem embellishments next to them. Despite the lack of any flourishes, diamond solitaires don’t have to be plain or dull. Many women prefer the simplicity and beauty of a single, dazzling stone set in a plain or fancy setting as the symbol of their love that two people have for each other.
It may seem to diamond solitaire customers that in order to have an engagement ring that has only one, single diamond, and the stone has to be large enough to offset the lack of any embellishments. A smaller diamond or gem stone put on a band that is narrower will highlight the stone much better than a thicker gold band and will look good on women whose fingers are slender. In addition to the size of the band, a band can be etched artistically to add depth or intricacy to the ring. A band can also be two-toned, using different colors of gold, silver or platinum, or draw attention to the ring by giving the ring an unusual shape like a curve or a wave.
There are many different shapes of diamonds that can be used in a diamond solitaire ring. The most popular shape used for diamond solitaires is round, but there is a wide array of different shapes that can be used such as pear shaped, emerald shaped, Marquise and oval shaped diamonds. Using a different shape other than round can make the diamond more elongated and look larger. Using a different shape other than round such as heart shaped or trillium shaped can draw attention to the stone for reasons other than its size and focuses on the shape, instead.
If someone decides to use a two toned band, using a different, higher quality metal other than the standard 14 karat gold adds a bit of beauty and sophistication. Higher grades of gold like 18 karat have a yellow hew that is richer than the standard 14 karat. Metals like platinum and white gold have a lighter shade that will be more noticeable when mixed with 14 or 18 karate varieties. The use of copper or brass can accentuate a two toned look by using the unusual hues incorporated into those metals while mixed with gold.
The prong setting is the most popular setting used for diamond solitaire, but there are different varieties of prong settings such as arched, bezel or flush settings. Channel settings are not usually recommended for use in solitaires since they can obscure the best qualities of a diamond.
While current trends tend to favor personalization and individuality, many brides to be prefer the timeless sophistication of a diamond solitaire engagement ring. Even though there are limits put on such a design with only one stone, there are many different ways to create a personalized ring with a unique and beautiful design. A diamond solitaire is the traditional and enduring symbol of a couple’s love and devotion.
