Jewelry made from the pearl Tahitian is exotic and very expensive compared to other types of pearls. Rarity is always a reason for higher prices in any commodity as long as there is demand. And if demand is greater than production then it becomes the seller’s market and prices will rise. Demand is great for the truly luxurious pearl Tahitian. Incomparable, all other pearls are literally pale in comparison.
The value of this pearl is comparable to South Sea Pearls, but higher than other pearl types. Values for the Pearl Tahitian are higher for a number of reasons. Some of these factors are their larger size, and incredible colors. There are differences in production, such as the remoteness of the pearl farms, the higher costs associated with nurturing and maintaining the pearl Tahitian population. And demand is high for these beauties which have lower production in overall quantities, making their cost higher. The amounts of akoya pearls produced are huge compared to the Tahitian Pearl.
A top grade, large, single Tahitian can cost thousands of dollars. A high quality graduated necklace, in sizes ranging from 10 mm to 14 mm, could easily retail for $45,000, in comparison to a high quality strand of akoya graduated pearls, would sell for perhaps $3,000. These prices are for typical high quality pearl necklaces.
If you compare the high priced single strand pearl you might find existing sales of $250,000.plus. In October 1989, the famous Christie’s sold a triple strand of fine matching pearls for $880,000.
This pearl is large, average sizes are 8 mm to 14 mm. The largest recorded is 26.95 mm, for those not used to the metric system, that is a single pearl that measures over 1 inch in diameter.
Colors are Peacock, Aubergine (French for eggplant), Pistachio, and all shades of black to green to gray. Some of them are metallic in appearance.
Pearls are a special gem for many reasons, and within the pearls the pearl Tahitian is the most exotic. They are an especially stunning black pearl with overtones and highlights of all the colors of the rainbow.
