Why doesn’t the White Castle Hamburger chain build restaurants in the West of the USA. Why not California?
Yes. I know we have them in the frozen section of grocery stores, but there is nothing like having the real White Castle Sliders. Why doesn’t the chain build any further west of Minnesota and Missouri? You would think the franchise would be even more successful with restaurants in California, but none are there.
It all comes down to money. The farther you build away from your base, just about no matter what kind of company you are, the more it cost to run the company. If nothing else, just the cost of increased transportation to move inventory can be a major factor.
In California, the cost to purchase or lease property alone can put a company at a major disadvantage within its’ marketplace. Add in the high cost of labor, insurance, taxes, etc., and in some cases a company would find itself saying: “It just isn’t worth being here.”
And, California has some of the most stupid and anti-business regulations you have to work under, that that alone is making a lot of companies leave the state…or reduce their presence there.
